The world is changing fast so does the technology around us. Every year new gadgets and electronics are introduced for the tech fanatics all over the world. It doesn’t matter if you are a diehard tech lover after the latest devices, or a laid-back “average” consumer, almost every one of us can’t help but look forward to the technology advancement and trends that lie ahead.
After a year with astoundingly high sales for smart speakers and virtual reality, as well as the unveiling of several new phones and tablets, let us look ahead to the possible trends that will unfold in 2018.
- 5G
5G is a kind of wireless technology that you may have heard about recently, such as Verizon choosing Samsung as the provider for its 5G market launch.
The reason why it’s such a big deal is that it will result in higher wireless speeds, capacities, and lower latency, which usually means that there will be far fewer delays or technical issues and interruptions in some of the things it influences, like wireless VR or self-driven vehicles etc.
- AI infusion
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will get better and more upgraded in 2018. It’s being unified into various applications. Like old times, AI will not be focusing on one goal, like mastering a game or communicating with humans but it’s starting to make an entrance in almost every new platform, application, software or device. The upgradation will result in two key things:
- Dialogs with context – machines carrying on conversations with humans with better natural language processing and,
- The ability of AI to build trust and decrease bias with users, explaining why it makes certain recommendations of action or content.
- Facial Recognition
Since last year our faces are playing a major role in helping our devices identify us and capture our preferences – from our mobile phones to Face ID technology in our cars. And people seem to be quite comfortable with this technology globally. According to the CTA’s research, users have shown an increased amount of trust in this technology that is now being used for private data such as health and medical information. Revenues are predicted to have a 6% increase this year for the in-vehicle technology.
- Robotics
One of the major tech trends in this year’s CES was Robotics, as it seems to play the biggest role in consumer electronics.
The speakers seemed to take interest in Kuri, a robot that was described as a “family friend” that can “capture life’s moments automatically using face recognition.” Its technology looked somewhat similar of the Google Clips photo technology publicized last fall, which claims to allow users to spend more time in the moment, rather than taking the perfect picture, with similar recognition technology.
The event also displayed Honda’s robots, which are manufactured through a “3E Philosophy,” erected on the pillars of empowerment, experience, and empathy. It showed a pattern of integrating more compassion and responsiveness into robotics. These would be moving, speaking computers with feelings, same as Kuri.
